Abstract The stay cables are axial load-carrying members in cable-stayed bridges and subjected to the problems of large amplitude oscillations mainly due wind. investigations presented this paper attempt tackle problem by application a shape memory alloy wire, which understood have excellent recovery property under deformation. aim is determine how dynamic behavior taut steel cable changes when Ni-Ti SMA wire connected location at may provide best results terms vibration dissipation cable. Before analytical study on cable, hysteresis was studied different strain as well tension compression loadings. responses with without were determined free forced vibrations. used locations its most effective damping introduced variation response investigated varying excitation frequencies. It found that can be effectively element dissipating oscillation. also mid-length where maximum occurs location, although not practical one, attach wire.
